<br />
This is just the best banana pancakes recipe:<br />
<br />
<a href="http://allrecipes.com/recipe/20334/banana-pancakes-i/">http://allrecipes.com/recipe/20334/banana-pancakes-i/</a><br />
<br />
However, as written the batter comes out a little runny, so I add a 1/4 cup of whole wheat flour, which also adds some extra fiber.<br />
<br />
Made it today for Clint's birthday breakfast. Awesome with jam or fresh fruit!<br />

I wasn't sure what to do with them, so I decided to try to find a bread recipe. This James Beard is incredible, ya'll! I used Southern Comfort for the whisky, with pecans (didn't bother to toast them) and golden raisins. Heaven!</span><br />

He is definitely not a ridiculously cuddly teddy bear like Freddie---he purrs so softly it's hard to tell if he is purring at all, he is very tetchy about being picked up or touchy on his belly, and his default expression is grumpy. However, he has gotten increasingly affectionate, especially liking to hang out with Clint and Ian, and likes to follow us from room to room upstairs. Tonight we realized that he has also gone from being threatened by Freddie to seeing himself as Freddie's protector.</span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">Freddie had to go back to the vet today (looks like he should be all right with some treatment, which is more than we can say for our Christmas budget). One of the procedures he needed was an enema, and needless to say the vet's office did not clean him up very well afterwards. Since he likes to sleep in the master bed, the two of us had to give him a bath tonight, which he did not appreciate after the hard day he's had today. He fought like a wildcat, with much screaming and yowling. While this was going on Max heard the noise and curiously peeked his head into the bathroom. We laughed and said to each other, "No way Max is coming in here! He doesn't want to be next." </span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYKrYE_Hj1NolQ22TG8uErnqtrgYbYItPtugpfCsO0rXBpVCtenzEdADEnqmnPIF5QVerkyr_czCixe8lUhxfW3zF-aJMfaNKgrJdn9L3VC_FXghxeJzkB-_orR-aDfLTueIVpLDBQ1CXL/s1600/Max.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYKrYE_Hj1NolQ22TG8uErnqtrgYbYItPtugpfCsO0rXBpVCtenzEdADEnqmnPIF5QVerkyr_czCixe8lUhxfW3zF-aJMfaNKgrJdn9L3VC_FXghxeJzkB-_orR-aDfLTueIVpLDBQ1CXL/s640/Max.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="font-size: large;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-size: large;">But a few minutes later there was a flash of white fur, and Max had run into the bathroom and was attacking my leg, batting me like a boxer with his front paws! I shooed him out gently and shut the door. We finished Freddie's bath and wrapped him in a towel, and Max came and sat nearby keeping an eye on things. I've never seen anything like that---I really think Max was trying to protect Freddie and considering that they are two adult male cats who didn't grow up together, weren't friendly when they first met, and have only started to tolerate each other within the past months or so, that seems quite remarkable. Not at all what you expect from "selfish" cats.</span><br />

I asked the produce manager, and he said, "We're all out. But I'll sell you the display one for $10." So that is how we ended up with a 50 lb pumpkin.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiI5gLGEDZzGxX4CYHic2r_3wsaigZWsXzid-mIu0BvNsHCueuDUakF4xwUmkAUNg5a-H0oPQkeq0h-MnYjWetB_h1el5sRFJXtcIPkej3PSsBZw1VkvJ5LoTykADyAguachKYUvUoQphFa/s1600/p1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiI5gLGEDZzGxX4CYHic2r_3wsaigZWsXzid-mIu0BvNsHCueuDUakF4xwUmkAUNg5a-H0oPQkeq0h-MnYjWetB_h1el5sRFJXtcIPkej3PSsBZw1VkvJ5LoTykADyAguachKYUvUoQphFa/s1600/p1.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I was afraid to take on the mammoth task of carving it, so Clint just painted a goofy Jack-o-lantern face on it with non-toxic paints from his face-painting kit. I usually take the seeds out of our Jack-lanterns when we carve them and we roast pumpkin seeds, and once in a while I will use the meat for a pumpkin pie, but this year I did not want to let all of that pumpkin go to waste. So this weekend Clint dragged Big Bertha inside for me and I proceeded to make pumpkin puree.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmBRX70Wi79ygP02XyI6McH0pccVGkQgpsRAVcLSEW3fwhawbGm4hqGq1hWEhQv27o3MM-zRi0UbSvQ_Ej-V5FxO3di8xfGEmHuzXJg5vC_TIQ5TOpzFbw6ya3R2DZId_qmlmVPSa5PxLg/s1600/p2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmBRX70Wi79ygP02XyI6McH0pccVGkQgpsRAVcLSEW3fwhawbGm4hqGq1hWEhQv27o3MM-zRi0UbSvQ_Ej-V5FxO3di8xfGEmHuzXJg5vC_TIQ5TOpzFbw6ya3R2DZId_qmlmVPSa5PxLg/s1600/p2.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I actually had to use a tree pruning saw to cut it open it was so tough (yes, that is me looking none-too-glamorous in my sweats, tee, and favorite baseball cap). When I saw how thick the walls of the pumpkin were, I was very glad we had painted it rather than tried to carve it, since it was about three inches thick!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRSkfxrsGnv4dsyuwhM9R3T9DwQqHgz7esnpcSoigXXHHOsaADjlRqHW82g6KP2AMAtQXqeb7AE32tFDqHBvJBhhDYD9nphlZypPnGas5ZVkzlQySaGzJC63PFyDnQ3j-3zmsOsxHNv6cX/s1600/p3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRSkfxrsGnv4dsyuwhM9R3T9DwQqHgz7esnpcSoigXXHHOsaADjlRqHW82g6KP2AMAtQXqeb7AE32tFDqHBvJBhhDYD9nphlZypPnGas5ZVkzlQySaGzJC63PFyDnQ3j-3zmsOsxHNv6cX/s1600/p3.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I cut the pumpkin into good-sized chunks and steamed it on the stove until it was tender and then removed the skin.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj14RtIJdzGuHRrHpbGOaNUucEOMVBRHZx0-EDRs2zRbhepsRMm2iB6LCHEKk8D5oNuFJgNSpEIu-qq3NXdI7Iu-vMJD66kuvSBuohuWW05dfEuhGxTlMjq1vpXEXGR9s0PQQwhPUWksHHp/s1600/p6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj14RtIJdzGuHRrHpbGOaNUucEOMVBRHZx0-EDRs2zRbhepsRMm2iB6LCHEKk8D5oNuFJgNSpEIu-qq3NXdI7Iu-vMJD66kuvSBuohuWW05dfEuhGxTlMjq1vpXEXGR9s0PQQwhPUWksHHp/s1600/p6.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Next I pureed the pumpkin with a potato masher. I went ahead and froze some for later (good for pumpkin pies).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2H7p8kjMRtFqmHCMOFE87_clxWPlJDqg9s3sEE-100exHfHR5X01qtqU3iooks0mcJj6kE-HUeMLO1YtF6hD-unQuC58O633MK4rk2AlI-BuMN8Y10ABZWT4wZG8HjYYA9tjpJNVAs2vc/s1600/p4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2H7p8kjMRtFqmHCMOFE87_clxWPlJDqg9s3sEE-100exHfHR5X01qtqU3iooks0mcJj6kE-HUeMLO1YtF6hD-unQuC58O633MK4rk2AlI-BuMN8Y10ABZWT4wZG8HjYYA9tjpJNVAs2vc/s1600/p4.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I made some pumpkin soup, which turned out to taste sort of like creamed corn. I also decided I would try making pumpkin bread, since I like other fruit and veggie breads (banana, zucchini, applesauce...) I used the recipe for the pumpkin bread that Bobby Flay uses in his pumpkin bread pudding. I did add some pecans to it as well (I just love pecans!)</div>

So not a bad weekend's work. However, I have to confess that that big old 50 pounder got the best of me---I ended up throwing over 3/4 of it away. Still glad some of it went to use, though!</div>

On Saturday I made tortilla soup. This is easy-peasy and really good---although a warning that it is on the spicy side.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1 can Mexican corn, drained</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1 can black beans with jalepenos, drained</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1 can diced tomatoes with chiles</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
2 cups chicken broth</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
2 cups water</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
2 teaspoons Maggi chicken caldo mix</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
1 lb chicken, cubed</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
lime juice to taste</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Simmer for 2-3 hours, then serve with sliced avocado, tortilla chips, and sour cream and cheese garnish.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This is how sweet my little man is. Here he is sitting on the couch reading his Bible and holding hands with his dad. I took a picture so I could remember this in a few years when he's an impossible teenager!</div>

Update: Low sodium version - instead of 2 cups chicken broth, 2 cups water, and 2 tsps Maggi caldo mix, use 4 cups low sodium chicken broth, 4 cloves minced garlic, 1 tsp chili powder, 1 tsp ground cumin, 1/2 tsp oregano, and 1/2 tsp onion powder.<br />

We went for a long walk and enjoyed the weather after all the bitter cold days we have had lately. I've been thinking about needing to start in on my yard and gardening tasks for the spring, and decided to take on a little spring-related project.<br />
<br />
I got this wooden bunny basket at the local Goodwill a few years ago. I loved the shape of it, but the dark brown wood with murky blue painted stripes was icky to say the least. <br />
<br />

<br />
I kept ruminating about what color I wanted to paint it and about a week ago I decided I wanted to do it white with some kind of French typography in black. So, first I painted it white with a cheap white acrylic craft paint. I did a sloppy job, because I wanted it to look rustic (yeah, that's why, not because I'm lazy or anything!) Already it looked better than before...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR9-0Kqld-oWQNPn0vZR2ff2d5AgwkUUSkx4s5D6gsHZWWbF6EW4Hh2lq-ZcGmzbV5hUW15uDVIaWcrPBsAoyJNz5F2CBd12U5BKUw6h9al6YmPhNW0F55Eppm0FNV8fi9vuCDiJL8VcUW/s1600/IMG_2872%5B1%5D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR9-0Kqld-oWQNPn0vZR2ff2d5AgwkUUSkx4s5D6gsHZWWbF6EW4Hh2lq-ZcGmzbV5hUW15uDVIaWcrPBsAoyJNz5F2CBd12U5BKUw6h9al6YmPhNW0F55Eppm0FNV8fi9vuCDiJL8VcUW/s1600/IMG_2872%5B1%5D.JPG" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I have some pretty-looking fonts that I have downloaded off the internet, and I got the idea that instead of using vintage graphics, I would just use the text of French poems about rabbits in fancy fonts. So, I found a couple of poems online (helps if you know that rabbit is <i>le lapin</i> in French), and put them in nice fonts. Then I printed them onto transparency sheets in mirror image and used an old credit card to scrape them onto the wood (see <a href="http://redhenhome.blogspot.com/2011/11/transparency-transfers">http://redhenhome.blogspot.com/2011/11/transparency-transfers</a>.html for a tutorial). <br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
One funny side note: I realized while I was transferring one of the poems and actually got a chance to read it long enough to translate it that I forgot the fact that the old French word for rabbit is no longer really used because it is also a code-word for lady parts. So in case anybody speaks French, I haven't shown you a close-up of the eyebrow-raising double-entendre poem about "the valley of the country of Tenderness"---doh!<br />

<br />
<a href="http://www.sweetcsdesigns.com/10-minute-baked-cinnamon-sugar-donut-holes/">http://www.sweetcsdesigns.com/10-minute-baked-cinnamon-sugar-donut-holes/</a><br />
<br />
The donut holes turned out great, but Sweet C and her family must like cinnamon *way* more than we do! One of the things I loved about this recipe was that it called for lemon extract as well as vanilla (both of which I make myself), so the donut holes had a delicious light lemony taste. My son loves anything lemon flavored, so I decided to put a lemon glaze on the donut holes instead of cinnamon, and it was awesome! Here is the lemon glaze I used:<br />
<br />
1 cup powdered sugar<br />
1/2 tsp lemon extract<br />
2 tablespoons melted butter<br />
1 Tbsp lemon juice<br />
<br />
Mix the ingredients well, and then pipe onto the hot donut holes. Yum!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
I've been craving lavender gelato lately, and I finally got a few blooms on my lavender plants after a long rainy summer, so I made <a href="http://www.domesticdaddy.net/2011/06/24/lavender-gelato/">Domestic Daddy's lavender gelato recip</a>e this week, adding a little purple food coloring to pretty it up. Wasn't sure if my tiny amount of homegrown French lavender would work, because it called for dried culinary lavender, but holy cow---if the lavender taste was any stronger it would knock you over! I will let my nine-year-old, Ian, (who amazingly enough loved it) give you the final verdict:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1. Lavender gelato: sounds disgusting but it's not</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2. Respect it: it's awesome!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3. Respect the maker because it's homemade.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So there you have it folks: respect me, respect my gelato! ;-)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVJGV1BNUaNEk06etGVl0yobPCbJ0RxWXISchdf6Z9LFMlaWd55ZqpASiOI9o35-NzpNwO3NVPye7MBDmm2ipUC0G77HkN_9GYTwk9K7Gb_lvkEmNMjkiwnjkYEWgSws0t-xJkm0ltYCmx/s1600/IMG_2793%5B1%5D.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiVJGV1BNUaNEk06etGVl0yobPCbJ0RxWXISchdf6Z9LFMlaWd55ZqpASiOI9o35-NzpNwO3NVPye7MBDmm2ipUC0G77HkN_9GYTwk9K7Gb_lvkEmNMjkiwnjkYEWgSws0t-xJkm0ltYCmx/s640/IMG_2793%5B1%5D.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
This was today's little experiment. I wanted some plain granola, simple granola topping for my yogurt---no raisins, no nuts, just sweet toasted oatmeal goodness. Couldn't seem to find it at the grocery store, so I bought some oats and decided to make it myself. This makes just enough for a week's worth of breakfast toppings, but I assume you could double it if you wanted.<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
1 cup rolled oats (not instant, the real kind)</div>
<div>
1 T flour</div>
<div>
1/8 cup brown sugar</div>
<div>
4 T apple juice</div>
<div>
1 tsp vanilla</div>
<div>
1 tsp cooking oil </div>
<div>
cooking spray (to grease cookie sheet)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Mix all the dry ingredients together with a fork until well-blended. Then add all the other ingredients and mix well. Spread in a single layer on a greased cookie sheet and cook for about 30 minutes or until just slightly browned. Allow to cool and dry for 30 minutes, then store in sealed container.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Yummy yogurt goodness! :-)</div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqSn-AWkJH-cClqlp9cRhhyLu5Jbgdih0O1T-k3x-ImIaJP6IXzrywSlGHvdHdEoCLZvp4nq0UwFyzA36RdAEFUQV6DUFVH6kMA22hWGhhW9-03HZzIrKL42ObD5fz7Lq0tMZED9zLwOoL/s1600/scan0001.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqSn-AWkJH-cClqlp9cRhhyLu5Jbgdih0O1T-k3x-ImIaJP6IXzrywSlGHvdHdEoCLZvp4nq0UwFyzA36RdAEFUQV6DUFVH6kMA22hWGhhW9-03HZzIrKL42ObD5fz7Lq0tMZED9zLwOoL/s640/scan0001.jpg" width="492" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Observations:</div>
<ol>
<li>Wow, was I a self-absorbed, obnoxious, snarky little punk-rock-obsessed teenage twit!</li>
<li>Even so, I was a pretty good writer and storyteller (more so in this letter, actually, than in the works published in the literary magazine I found it tucked into---I guess there is something to the value of writing in your own voice).</li>
<li>Is it kind of sad that I signed off by telling my mother, "Call me if you're in town"?</li>
<li>I wrote this on a typewriter. Yes, I am that old----a fossil whose adolescence predates the digital age.</li>
</ol>

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">Back in summer 2000 I spent 2 weeks in England. There was a little bistro within walking distance of our B&B in Bloomsbury that was open late, and our study abroad group used to go there frequently in the evenings to have dessert and coffee after playing hard at being tourists all day. They had the most wonderful pear tart, and I have since tried a number of times to recreate it but it just wasn't the same. Then recently two things happened:</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
</div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">a) I found a recipe for French sweet pastry</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">b) I was talking to a friend who said he hated amaretto, and then the subject turned somehow to my pear tart recipe search. The next day I realized, amaretto! That's what would give the pear tart that almondy tang without resorting to almond paste, which I am not crazy about.</span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">

<div class="MsoNormal">
<span style="font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", serif;">So, after 13 years of hit-and-miss (ok, it wasn't the only thing I was doing all that time), here is my long-awaited heavenly pear tart recipe!</span></div>

I was checking to see where my pagehits were being referred from, and looks like someone recenlty got referred here looking for porn. I guess "Kathy's Magic Window" could sound suggestive, although I certainly never thought of it that way! :-o<br />
<br />
We had one of Ian's friends and his mom over for brunch and the boys were still excited about Valentine's Day, so we went with that theme.<br />
<br />
Anyway, you could say Ian was excited about it that morning!<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Wish this was a better picture---they were really cute! Then yesterday I made some cupcakes for Ian to take to school today.</div>

<br />
Apparently these were a big hit with his classamtes. That cookie cutter used to be my great-grandmother's.<br />
<br />
But the best Valentine's goody was: after having my house flood the week before Christmas and spending almost almost two months with no kitchen or diing room floors, I have new tile!<br />

While working full time and being a mom to a special needs child, I finished half of the coursework for my doctorate. I've been a full time student all year and am taking 12 hours of doctoral coursework this Fall. I hope to finish the rest of my coursework by next summer and start writing my dissertation.<br />
<br />
Anyway, I realized a couple of weeks ago that with all that has been going on, I still had the Easter decorations up in the house(!) So, I put them away and put up the Halloween decor to get in the spirit of things. Let's start with our creepy front door.<br />
<br />

Ian's really into this game called Plants vs. Zombies right now, so I figured he would like our house being a "Zombie Feeding Area."<br />

Hope you had fun seeing our All Hallows Eve decor! Ian sang "God Bless America" at the talent contest at school last week, so if I get the video from that from one of the other parents, I will have to post it here soon. Ours didn't come out, unfortunately! :-(</div>

The hubby started his Master's degree and is taking two classes this summer, I've been busy with both the autism group and stuff for a couple of professional organizations I belong to (including a couple of papers at a conference in Phildelphia, which the guys got to go with me to), and now we just got back from Florida. I'm starting a PhD program in the Fall (in addition to my fulltime job), and it also looks like I may be doing a concert and a couple of auditions as well, so I'm getting ready for all of those challanges. Whew!<br /><br /><br />So, blogging has once again taken a backseat. But, I have been meaning to post those lovely pink caladiums I planted this spring. This was taken several weeks ago, so they are actually bigger then this by now, but I love the color! There are red and white ones in the front yard under our tree as well.<br /><br /><p><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 298px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5630042566376174466" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgc7ZRt5a_iYImO9PCwK6Cz9-XdBa7erhSjUA828kBxQNkvo10cfBOwONume4sfBuh5eDcQ3zrdRvxTCnAkvef2OdcdbEyrDy5dWNeWVwnuobsyhcVB7X6e4JUfCvrqeTdpJzclfbTCG0TO/s400/253622_2109411338755_1349756107_2498705_6008896_n.jpg" /></p><br /><p>Posted to <a href="http://howsweetthesound.typepad.com/my_weblog/2011/07/pink-saturday-july-16-2011.html">Pink Saturday</a>!</p>Kathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12053979302390093621noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6814816810272695084.post-22091359870882954912011-04-26T18:42:00.000-07:002011-04-26T20:39:00.566-07:00Hand-me-downs make a pretty Easter table<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1jZAq5cZWH-YIHRsTIWIehGl8HpVll2_8ZSXiN7a-nE1YzgolCXh_scWB3HcT6QhoCHRlzHI7XbS59nkXIgwW2-78SmqUifF1GlArLTNqaVgBsaeaI8NisDyMVM7XO5WX4-Ci-RdfrnZo/s1600/IMG_1630.JPG"></a> <br /><div><br /><div>As you'll no doubt see, despite the fact that I am kind of a dishware freak with way more sets of dishes than most people would consider reasonable...I don't really do tablescapes. The reason being that with my two guys plus my crazy schedule, I am lucky if I even get the table set at all before everyone sits down and digs in. And, the guys just do not care. My husband recently tried to serve lobster and filet mignon on the everyday Corningware. (I said, "Are you kidding me! We have *three sets* of china!")<br /></div><br /><div>All the same, I like being festive despite the guys' lack of interest, and I had a good reason to set a pretty table for Easter, because for the first time I actually own good silver---my mom gave me my grandma's silver set when I was her visiting earlier this month. Mom gave me the china as well---I am ashamed to say I can't remember who it belonged to, although do cut me a little slack---her dad was married five times and she's been married three, so I have a lot of steps to say the least(!) <br /><div></div><br /><div></div><br /><div></div></div><br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5600084250841976274" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJ31ePAub_sJxKzFo2A5-0Mb-NFVZHBu4BkJnh6ZE4NFhs3FS8XJCkgZjL2_oja8yKwaQFugofKfkCwmIouvZkXY-xsn18E_ZaaqKA1IdWkV26vpzalXqHGIIHYsqmkkevGhWfUfcjKDE7/s400/IMG_1667.JPG" /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5600084247002265042" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj2XuD2p8Z4gLFYOFPRlMDclPo1MCawhsc_u-5OYVBHmyrYZdAEeXXDq8PQuXwswRue7bSeEABe99-irD0SaqF473D42wuoQdjdLqpSuanUJIQ31ZPtr9SPTYZeybPjkfM8W6WWImSd5V4l/s400/IMG_1665.JPG" /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5600087461507132850" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmc3BY4fVm-aQfzX2InnOENbsYvejsOK_OcqvBk_wjScLLTFW9uJFzKggr5eITtS7ls03opldV22QuHH6_BiQ76aMDdPj8OroH_ZJdlpuM4hxpOExeChP03Ta8DJqUBZN9tFuWBSIfqC19/s400/IMG_1669.JPG" /><br />If you're wondering what we had, we went full-out Southern, with congealed salad, baby lima beans...<br /><br /><br /><p><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5600090566481021010" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQN6mDRqg35YnetOnxvNBbpdGpvmVyHoXIPUA-rdHuNBtBj9TKMJq07mbkQpTgNmzjWf5PJvhSzKwuDNbmjzXMJAXvHwFvyuqT_EyqsGm4NTya0-CnBcj8BXI3Kde22s4MrMaDw6nuvYAg/s400/IMG_1671.JPG" /> </p><br /><p>...corn, mashed potatoes...<br /><br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5600090572985781090" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEie-xfc7Nmd27PoHnQ3MVoPJ_00uGRL78jfSQoQxPeVl-4AOeFvnDvJ8hkOdj6vbBrPVyJcwTRAZgz47t0ki0EFNShkni8NjWYf1ART7uNIfA8ViLCMIx_qL4sPuGBiJWW_g8yQubm6ttmD/s400/IMG_1673.JPG" /></p>...turkey (notice the hubby has brought two ugly forks to the table despite the fact that I have a silver fork laid out---haha! see what I mean?)...<br /><br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5600094330313936930" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYQJfoR8BnCUfEm1unXsWdYaCC0Lh1BTSW2WvVf_UbIZPU2s6nfu0szl2Bh2gACdjMk4ytJDJD1stg60plAkd3OV_BKpfNcoLiLKUe4BobWoHboG00-JrGPm8OUovyf9CIRfSnsBY9KA8d/s400/IMG_1675.JPG" /> <br /><div></div>...and last but not least, gravy and dinner rolls.<br /><br /><div></div><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5600094335101318658" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjkTVfopmVzJ_r0SIAa9XbEXby5QxVFxaQowAzxXpDOcXvOGsvXvt-3A2P54bOHWL4TN1qUdceo8MGISjnsAnD2G9ehWmN3z-G5Dh7g4qEqzinNz6PVbX8ysBWMoerWexNgOw1ZKqhdJ7Er/s400/IMG_1679.JPG" /><br /><br /><div>And I just had to share this picture of the little man relaxing after dinner out on the deck with a good book on the hammock.</div><br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5600096870511109778" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm4BMBHhmnJVzY400Rp9IeRyk3gjhuBpX9ImZHObKLpQEghkskKJ8wv_0dyTLf4zvkmQlhSuuSiBPN4PwkSEf3pr96hKYw77UKOPHWv7Mwrx0uWF3PICmFLGvxc2ZA71Jdw0LGQSjqoTEd/s400/IMG_1685.JPG" /> I'm posting this to <a href="http://linda-coastalcharm.blogspot.com/2011/04/nifty-thrifty-tuesdays-no60.html">Nifty Thrifty Tuesday</a>, because there's nothing so thrifty as family hand-me-downs. The past two years I've been too busy to dig out the Easter tree, and things were looking a little bare. I suddenly realized that one of my collections would be perfect Easter decor---I have been collecting stuffed Easter bunnies for over 20 years. So, I dragged the bunnies out of the guest bedroom and into the living room, and here are the results. Y'all can see why I'm not a professional decorator: I don't know when to stop!<br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5598554391728122098" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQY2x9T0i0x-wopTtKjTWm9zZfyC52vAm9J77oFarqefMEziGlDlaSws1enfbYeSGM5HOZrByHq9VQNXmH8ClnT1G2Nn_zQroW94oFkEbqayQ3VAWyPaNfiE7H0kSQXbHVQSeSn1ZMGvoz/s400/IMG_1639.JPG" /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5598558671396158882" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9esYKq65dlcmD1cbkxCB6APCjRSdvrG4Ur2rC8AsD5DrEJQ19tbeYhqRsipB9UpBrW3fqzzAyhapNiyB5CP_t-RO2QkPmpjxMCxMvnwYeDwD9XXuFKqchuvW0PpUTP1H9nHls33LWcvgS/s400/IMG_1642.JPG" /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfR541vvU_5Se6yCtbhL_5fzcnffGncZ1k3qdc095KlH7w75LAxaKHCTkBzlS5MTWJ7J00MTwBSswxwZNjCvd2LS596xF3z12mQHSOsKMqQCfZmyW856K_RZg1x-y_Yba3hor6g9zRodHZ/s1600/IMG_1643.JPG"></a> The black and white bunny above came from Hampton Court Palace in England.<br /><br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 400px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 300px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5598561596285344738" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOv_cCxx8kzhLL8rV09i3LlcfH6EKupyiIk6gzgskov56lmP8d8Jmmav6h5SGDUKO7yH0O_crSfsS3ePL3yH8gUNOrftwJXhu_7AYFZm-TO7nLEb1j_4ZvGUt2Z9NcAL63Ez9aJMtSmZZz/s400/IMG_1645.JPG" /> <img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5598554394440665986" border="0" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjj6W3RtI7B_Cy5dXQ496z3HLV58xojtkMFYfl0Si4K0_tIUfN696crObNN6OVaS9zRAcXkv8mDu8f4YahFCDAxF4rTAzjCPegJkzzYWeinQXNEeTzjbtMw54DgEcUR7wwrYVOwUK6KKRLR/s400/IMG_1641.JPG" /> The pink and brown matching bunnies below were the two that I started my collection with.
